I get a lot of clients asking why they cannot just use a free email service for their business email addresss so here are my 2 cents as to why not to use a free email address for you business:
- Using free email domains like @gmail or @hotmail for your business address can pose problems. Clients might not view you as professional if they receive emails from a generic address instead of your domain-specific one (e.g., [email protected] vs. [email protected]). This could deter serious clients and raise doubts about your legitimacy.
- Having your domain reinforces your brand, while using another brand in your email address is counterproductive.
- Starting with a professional domain is crucial. Neglecting to purchase one can harm your business’s credibility from the outset.
- Consider the future: as your business expands, using your domain enables easy scaling for additional employee email addresses.
Setting up domain-specific email accounts is simple. You can choose Google Workspace (formerly G Suite) for Gmail-based addresses or Microsoft 365 for Outlook-based ones, maintaining familiarity with the user interfaces while benefiting from branding and security advantages.
